My mare’s pasture mate has shoes on, so nets are out. The other owner and I both want ground level feeding. There are already two large rubber troughs in the pasture.

Oooh, this is another great idea Sandy! I like the aspect of it being reusable for sure. Although I would imagine some people might be squeamish about it, I would like not having to throw the trap away entirely myself.

Mouse and rat sized. These are baited like a snap trap, mouse goes in and gets dispatched. No mess, quick. You just have to empty and rest. Cost: $25-50, but reusable and worth every penny.

Makes great bait on a trap and doesn’t dry out or spoil like other baits. I had one mouse who chewed his way out of a glue trap. Not sure how that worked for him…but all that was left in my truck was shredded glue trap.

Thanks Kelly! I find it fascinating how much one change can have an impact. And even that sometimes it doesn’t. Things can be continuously evolving depending on who is involved. Glad you figured it out too!

Herd dynamics are definitely a big key to horse relationships. We are due to separate some herd members into different groups because of conflicts that I didn’t see until I really started paying attention to the subtle things. Great info as always!

Thank you Mary! I truly find most everything I need to know about a horse’s behavior in doing those things with them. It provides so many good nuggets of info. Appreciate you reading and commenting!

Very well said. I appreciate in particular the advice about spending time on the ground them. Spending time with them in their routines — while they graze, while they sleep, while they ponder and absorb their surroundings — there’s real magic to be found in that.

Comment on Love Horses? This is the REAL reason! by Karen Wiechers https://julie-bradshaw.com/love-horses-this-is-the-real-reason/#comment-81 Sun, 28 May 2023 18:29:33 +0000 https://julie-bradshaw.com/?p=1389#comment-81 OMG I’ve been in therapy for cPTSD for a few years now and the transition has been really hard but extremely positive. I got back into horses 15 years ago (I’m 70 now) I did Pony Club eventing as a kid until around 20 years old. Never thought I’d ever get back into horses again but the urge hit me so strongly I had to experience those childhood feelings again. My TB mare is the 3rd horse I’ve had in this 2nd round of horses are my life. She was given to me by a TB racing/breeding/foaling farm I worked at as a foaling attendant in Spring 2011. She was going on 3 yrs old, and only touched by Vets and farriers, no training. She’s my heart horse. I’ve always known deep down there was more to horses than just being a horse and having been searching for more info on trust between us. Big issue for me due to my past. Anyway came across you on WS FB page and knew I wanted more.
